80,000 dominoes, a team, and a road trip to Malaga

On January 14, Ecco La Luna delivered a large-scale Domino Experience for Danone Nutricia at the sunny Higuerón Hotel Málaga.

The activity took place on day one of a four-day kick-off meeting for Danone Spain, built around the central theme SuNRise.

The Domino Experience immediately set the tone for the days ahead: an intense team building experience where every tile matters and every participant actively contributes to one shared outcome. The overall organisation of the event was managed by Somos Experiences. The collaboration with Ecco La Luna was built on trust: the VP Specialized Nutrition Unit of this Danone division had previously experienced a domino team building with us in Brussels in 2018 and wanted to recreate that same impact for her team.

From Knokke-Heist to Málaga: international logistics behind the experience

Delivering a Domino Experience on this scale requires far more than creativity alone. Preparation, timing and logistics are essential.
On January 12, Geert and Jef departed from Knokke-Heist with the Ecco La Luna van, loaded with 80,000 domino tiles. The road trip crossed France and Spain, with changing weather conditions, an unexpected customs check and an overnight stop in Vitoria-Gasteiz. Via Burgos, Madrid and the Parque Natural de Sierra Mágina, the team eventually reached Málaga.

At the same time, event manager Hans and four other facilitators flew from Brussels to Málaga. On Tuesday afternoon, a final coordination meeting took place with the client, the presenters and the hotel to walk through the complete scenario and align all final details. Around 6 pm, the van arrived as well, allowing the team to settle in within walking distance of the event venue.

Setup & preparation
On the morning of the team building, the room was fully set up according to a detailed layout and production plan. As the participants were already divided into 30 fixed planet teams for the entire kick-off meeting, these same teams were used for the Domino Experience.

The space was divided into 30 construction zones, and all materials were carefully and strategically positioned. By midday, everything was ready. After a short briefing by the two presenters at the end of the plenary session and a lunch break, participants enthusiastically started the Domino Experience.

Collaborating under pressure
The Domino Experience unfolded in several phases, each centred on communication, alignment and collaboration:

Find your zone

The 300 participants worked in 30 teams, each assigned to its own construction zone. In their zone, teams found collection trays for domino tiles, a clear instruction guide, domino templates, large plexiglass dominoes and a high-visibility vest for the team captain.

Design phase

Each team was given 10 minutes to design a construction linked to the SuNRise theme, taking into account time, space, available materials, role distribution and connections with neighbouring zones.

Construction phase

Once the designs were set, construction began. Through trial and error, teams learned how to work with dominoes: testing, adjusting and rebuilding when needed. The more complex the design, the greater the need for clear communication, planning and teamwork. During a captains’ meeting, agreements were made about inter-zone connections and overall coherence.

Closing the gaps

In the final ten minutes, all safety gaps were closed and the separate projects were connected into one large domino installation, ready for the finale.

Domino show: perfection is not the goal

After an energetic group countdown, the VP Specialized Nutrition Unit was given the honour of triggering the first domino.

What followed was an intense and immersive domino show. Due to the built-up tension in the constructions, some sections had already fallen prematurely. At a few moments, a small extra push was needed to restart the chain reaction.
This is exactly what made the experience so powerful and relatable. In complex organisations, processes rarely run perfectly from start to finish. What truly matters is how teams respond to unexpected situations, support one another and stay focused on the shared objective. With epic music, cheers and applause, the finale became a collective success — full of energy, authenticity and engagement.

Clean-up as a team effort
Immediately after the finale, all participants helped collect the domino tiles colour by colour and clear the room. Within five minutes, everyone had exited the space. 45 minutes after the last domino fell, all materials were back in the van — once again demonstrating efficient teamwork.

Outcome
The Domino Experience in Málaga became a powerful, visual and meaningful team building experience, bringing the participants of Danone Nutricia together around one shared moment. It was a strong translation of the SuNRise theme and a tangible illustration that great results are built through collaboration, trust and resilience — one tile at a time.

Closing in style
After the intensive and successful team building, the Ecco La Luna crew enjoyed a sporty game of padel at the Higuerón Resort followed by dinner at Arara.
Geert and Jef drove back to the warehouse over two days, while the rest of the team returned to Brussels after a short city walk in Málaga.
