Domino Experience
Building with domino stones requires the creativity, communication competences, concentration and collaboration of the participants and embodies perfectly the risks, pressure and stress when working in large groups and/or projects.
The participants are divided into teams. Each team designs an own project, builds a part of the final project and makes sure that it's safely connected to the other and final project. Inside the teams it's necessary to delegate the different tasks: leader, designer, constructor, safety coordinator, integrator, .. The participants should design something which is related to the theme of the day and they need to take into account: time, space and the number of domino stones.
Each team is also assigned to have one special effect in their project. The teams can get some inspiration on the Internet. The more complex their design is, the more time they need to test, to finetune and to make sure everyone completes his or her tasks.
When all the projects are completed they are connected to each other. One person has the honour to start the domino finale, which of course will be filmed: once the first stone falls down, then the entire domino train has to fall down without any interference. A deafening applause arouses to celebrate that (almost) all the stones fell down!!!!
It's time to have a close look at the projects and to let the teams explain their design. The music starts playing and in no time everyone collaborates and tidies up all the used materials.
The workshop also perfectly stimulates the learning process focused on experience. Moreover it's just fun and exciting. To build stone by stone, to reach a common goal needs the effort of everyone to make this succeed. Just one wrongly placed stone can mean the end of the project.
Frequently asked questions
How does the team building work?
You are divided into teams, and each designs and builds its own project before safely connecting it to the others. Within every team you delegate clear roles such as leader, designer, constructor, safety coordinator and integrator, all working towards one shared domino run.
Can the projects be personalised?
Yes. Each team designs something related to the theme of the day and builds in at least one special effect, drawing inspiration from the Internet. The more complex your design, the more time you need to test and finetune it together.
What skills does it call on?
Building with domino stones draws on creativity, communication, concentration and collaboration. It mirrors the pressure and risk of working in large groups, where one wrongly placed stone can undo the whole project, so everyone's effort truly counts.
Is the finale captured on film?
Yes. Once all projects are connected, one person has the honour of starting the domino finale, which can be filmed. When the first stone falls, the whole train topples project after project, ending in a well-earned round of applause.
